Alhaji Abbas Njiddah Tafida, the son of the Emir of Muri, has emerged as the PDP’s candidate for the next state by-election in the Yoro/Jalingo/Zing federal seat.
As the front-runner who garnered the support of the majority, Tafida was proclaimed the winner of the party’s primary on Tuesday at the Jolly Nyame Stadiu in the state capital of Jalingo.
Six other candidates withdrew from the race just minutes before the polls opened, and he was declared the winner.
Some of the prominent individuals that resigned from their positions were Hassan Bappa, Abdullahi Baba, Leah Solomon, Bello Yero, Chairman of the Taraba State Parliamentary Committee, and Saleh Sa’ad, the former Commissioner of Youth and Sport.
Alhaji Mohammed Danlami, the chairman of the electoral committee, announced that ninety-six of the 96 accredited delegates voted in favour of Tafida.
With this development, Tafida will compete in the February 3, 2024 by-election against Aminu Ibrahim Malle of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other candidates from other political parties.
