PDP Governors call on the Federal Government to guarantee a fair and transparent trial for the #EndBadGovernance protesters, emphasizing the need to uphold justice and human rights.

On Friday, the PDP Governors’ Forum requested that the Federal Government guarantee a just and timely trial for those #EndBadGovernance protesters who were apprehended.

The decision was conveyed via a statement delivered by Bauchi State Governor and Forum Chairman, Bala Mohammed. This announcement followed an assembly held at Jalingo’s Taraba State Government House among the governors.

The governors of the opposition confirmed that citizens have the right to peacefully protest and expressed their condolences to families who lost loved ones during nationwide demonstrations held from August 1-10.

According to the communique, “The discussion focused on significant issues within our party and governance that affect both our individual states as well as those of critical national significance.”

With a sigh of relief, the governors acknowledged that the #EndBadGovernance protests had ended, which was becoming an imminent national crisis.

The maturity displayed by the governors, particularly those from the PDP, in managing their state’s situation is applaudable as they effectively prevented miscreants and hoodlums from hijacking the protests.

The Forum affirms that citizens have the inherent right to peaceful protests as a means of voicing their legitimate concerns. The Forum expresses sympathy for the families affected by tragic losses and urges the Federal Government to guarantee equitable and expeditious trials for those taken into custody.

They voiced their opinion regarding the turmoil within the PDP in Rivers State and reiterated their endorsement of Siminalayi Fubara, the state governor.

In addition, the governors urged a reevaluation of the party congress result in order to reinstate his leadership position and vowed to collaborate with the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

The political deadlock in Rivers State, wherein party congresses are influenced by court judgments, has been observed by The Forum. In support of the Governor of Rivers State and to rectify any irregularities present in the congresses’ outcome, PDP Governors’ Forum will confer with our great party’s NWC and initiate corrective measures allowing His Excellency Governor Siminalayi Fubara to take his rightful leadership position within the state’s political parties.

The Forum expresses disappointment that the Federal Government has chosen to use coercion instead of conducting an assessment of macroeconomic and social policies, aimed at making them more compassionate. We urge Mr. President to exhibit leadership by instructing his officials not to indulge in finger-pointing tactics which only portray local governments negatively through ineffective piecemeal interventions that cannot address the issue satisfactorily.

Mohammed declared that we persist in unwavering determination to support the Nigerian masses and use valid approaches to alleviate their suffering.
