The Governors’ Forum of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed grave worry over the recent rulings by the Court of Appeal that invalidate the legislative elections in Plateau State on the grounds of pre-election disputes that the Supreme Court has already decided.

The Forum emphasised that PDP candidates in Plateau State were disqualified for the same reasons, even though the Supreme Court had established precedent on pre-election matters.

Sen. Bala Muhammad, the governor of Bauchi State and the Forum’s chairman, revealed this to the media during a press conference held following the Forum meeting at the Oyo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.

“We appealed to the highest court in the land to protect the integrity of the legal system and avoid distorting the legal framework of our nation.

Muhammad reiterated the Forum’s faith in the legal system’s capacity to dispense justice in matters pertaining to politics and other matters that come before the courts.

“The Court’s judgement on the presidential election marks the conclusion of the Presidential election cycle and emphasises the need for an end to litigations,” the chairman stated in reference to the Supreme Court’s ruling on the 2023 presidential election.
