A new crisis is emerging within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) due to the recently published list of Caretaker Committee members.

The controversy is particularly focused on the list for Rivers State, which has further deepened the existing political crisis between the camps of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, Chief Nyesom Wike, and the state Governor, Sir. Siminalayi Fubara.

Governor Fubara expressed his dissatisfaction with the list, describing it as fake and not in line with the agreement made between the PDP governors and the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

In response, Governor Fubara visited the PDP National Headquarters to consult with members of the NWC, confirming the meeting through his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Nelson Chukwudi.

During the meeting, the NWC dismissed the list as fake and reiterated the resolutions made during a previous meeting with the governors in March.

One of the key resolutions was that the executive committees in various states would transform into caretaker committees for the next three months without any changes in their compositions.

Governor Fubara emphasized that Rivers State would adhere to this decision, allowing the executive officers whose tenures expired in March to remain in their positions until the three-month extension period approved by the NWC ends, enabling the conduct of fresh congresses.

This resolution was communicated in a letter from the National Organizing Secretary, Umar M. Bature, to the Chairman of the Rivers State Caretaker Committee, Aaron Chukwuemeka, dated March 27, 2024.
