Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia’s election as governor of Benue State was recognised by the governorship election tribunal’s ruling, but the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, has rejected this decision.
The appeal filed by the PDP and its governorship candidate, Titus Uba, challenging the election of Alia of the All Progressives Congress, APC, was dismissed by the Governorship Election appeal Tribunal sitting in Makurdi on Saturday.
The panel declared the petition ineligible.
The PDP chapter in Benue State issued a statement through its publicity secretary, Bemgba Iortyom, rejecting the tribunal’s decision.
“PDP believes that the judgement does not meet the requirements of substantive justice and is not in alignment with existing electoral laws, guidelines, and regulations,” the statement said.
The party has so instructed its solicitors to file an appeal of the ruling at the Court of Appeal in Abuja within the allowed window of time.
The objective of reclaiming the governorship mandate will undoubtedly be accomplished in the end, our great party tells its thronging supporters throughout the state. “Though the walk to justice may be long, the goal of reclaiming the governorship mandate will undoubtedly be achieved in the end,” it says.
