The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) reiterated on Thursday that the 26 Rivers House of Assembly lawmakers who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) were no longer part of the state legislature.

PDP’s National Legal Adviser, Adeyemi Ajibade, SAN, made this statement to the press after the adjournment of the lawmakers’ case by Justice Donatus Okorowo of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Ajibade emphasized that the party’s stance was based on the constitution and not on any agreements. He acknowledged that President Bola Tinubu may have intervened in the dispute between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, but the party stood firm on the constitutional provisions regarding defection.

Ajibade further highlighted that the affected lawmakers had not denied their defection, and the constitution clearly addressed this issue in Section 109 (1g).
