The internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deepens as Acting National Chairman Damagum and other National Working Committee (NWC) members are suspended, further escalating tensions within the party.

The internal conflict within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has intensified, with competing factions in the National Working Committee (NWC) imposing suspensions on prominent party leaders.

The group supporting Acting National Chairman Illiya Damagum initiated action by suspending the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, and Kamaldeen Adeyemi Ajibade, SAN, who serves as the National Legal Adviser.

A committee led by Taofeek Arapaja, the Deputy National Chairman (South), was established to look into allegations against these officers. This was confirmed in a statement released Thursday night by Chinwe Nnorom, the National Director of Publicity.

During the 593rd meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), it was decided that Hon. Debo Ologunagba, National Publicity Secretary (NPS), and Kamaldeen Adeyemi Ajibade, SAN, National Legal Adviser (NLA), should step down temporarily,” she stated. “Meanwhile, their deputies will take over in an acting capacity until the investigation concludes.”

In retaliation, an opposing faction suspended Damagum and the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu. Ologunagba released a statement on behalf of this group accusing them of “anti-party activity” related to a letter that Damagum and Anyanwu sent to the Court of Appeal concerning a case involving former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly. Both individuals have been referred to the National Disciplinary Committee for further investigation.

This development comes after Senator Adolphus Wabara, Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, called for unity within the party during this crucial time.
