Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has denied allegations that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, sent thugs to attack Atiku Abubakar supporters in the state.
Wike called the accusations “cheap extortion.”
Abiye Sekibo, a former minister of transportation, and the PDP campaign council in the state said that Wike’s administration sent thugs to attack them.
Wike asserted that he has never engaged in any form of political violence.
The governor of Rivers State remarked, “Some people are saying we sent thugs to attack them,” while speaking in Port Harcourt. You know, when people experience failure, they start to formulate defenses.
“You are making excuses rather than telling your principal that this will be challenging for me.”
He forbade the political elite from attempting to destabilize the government.
Anyone who is familiar with me is aware that I have never used violence. I won’t appear in court if I act violently.
“However, we are aware of people who, while serving as government secretaries, planned murders in this state.” We are familiar with them, but the state won’t allow another murder to take place.
“We won’t give you the chance to attempt it once more,” he said.
After Atiku lost the PDP primary and the latter declined to name him as his running partner, Wike became enraged with him.
Following Atiku’s choice to pick Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, Wike has called for the ouster of Iyorchia Ayu as the National Chairman of the party.
Wike and the other G-5 governors were against having the party’s national chairman and presidential candidate come from the same region.
