The court has dismissed the suit calling for the sack of PDP National Chair Damagum, providing relief to the embattled party. Learn more about the implications.
A Katsina State High Court has dismissed the suit of Umar Iliya Damagumu seeking his removal as National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The suit brought by PDP member Ibrahim Musa challenged the appointment of Damagumu, claiming that the replacement of former national chairman Ibrahim Musa, Iyorukia Ayu, was unconstitutional.
Musa argued that Ayu’s successor should have been chosen from the geopolitical zone of North-Central, where Ayu hails from.

Justice Abdullahi Bawa-Faskari, however, dismissed the suit saying the matter was an internal party matter.
The judge ruled that the case was outside the jurisdiction of the court.
In his judgment, he accepted the preliminary objections of the first and second defendants and declared the case to be “injustice” as it exclusively concerns inter-party issues.
“The suit is without merit as it only concerns the internal affairs of the party and the court has no jurisdiction,” Justice Bawa Faskari said.
