PDP member Ikenga Ugochinyere alleges that the party’s national chairman and secretary frequently visit Wike’s residence, raising questions about internal party dynamics.
A group of opposition lawmakers alleges that several governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), along with the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and state chairpersons, are working together to maintain Umar Damagum as acting national chairman until 2027 in an effort to weaken the party.
At a press conference on Sunday in Akokwa, Imo State, Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, the coalition’s spokesperson, disclosed that their strategy includes keeping Damagum’s position and obtaining endorsements from PDP state chairmen for President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
Ugochinyere criticized the leadership of the PDP, expressing that although the nation faces numerous challenges, political opportunists have taken over a party that should be spearheading opposition efforts. Consequently, it has been reduced to simply serving as an “errand platform for the ruling party.”
He further claimed that the national leaders of the PDP were engaging with those from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), alleging they traveled to London for meetings with APC leadership.
Ugochinyere mentioned, “Within just 24 hours, the national chairman and secretary are found in Nyesom Wike’s intimate company—a minister within the APC government.”
During a period when Nigeria is experiencing a significant crisis, our opposition has now aligned closely with the ruling party.
Today, I wish to inform all of Nigeria that a plan has been put in place to prevent the NEC meeting from selecting a chairman from North-central, where the position was originally meant to be filled.

They want Umar Damagum, a major imposter, to keep pretending as the national chairman and remain in office until 2027 so they can impose on us a weak individual as the presidential candidate.
“We have impostors in our midst, lacking honor and decency. They are intent on undermining the political party from within. The ruling party must be amused as they watch these individuals attempt to sabotage their own organization.”
Ugochinyere also alleged that the national leaders consistently came up with reasons to postpone the NEC meeting.
“Initially, they mentioned a Sallah holiday and postponed it. Since last year, they’ve continually deferred the NEC meeting. Even now, there’s been no NEC meeting as they continue to offer various excuses.”
remembers that during the main opposition party’s 98th NEC meeting on April 18, they set a deadline of August 15 to address all outstanding issues. However, this was postponed and rescheduled for October 24.
The scheduled NEC meeting, intended to introduce a permanent National Chairman to succeed Damagum, has been postponed from October 24 to November 28.
For the umpteenth time, however, Friday’s party decided to postpone the NEC meeting from November 28 to a yet-to-be-announced date.
