The election of Bola Tinubu, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as president was confirmed on September 6 by the Presidential Election Petitions Court.

Bola Tinubu, the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), won the presidential election on February 25, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees is certain that the party will receive justice in the Supreme Court.

The cases submitted by the PDP, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), the Labour Party (LP), and its presidential candidates disputing Tinubu’s election were dismissed by the Presidential Election cases Court in a 12-hour marathon ruling on September 6. The five-member panel, presided over by Justice Haruna Tsammani, not only dismissed the consolidated petitions of the PDP, the APM, and the LP, but it also unequivocally reaffirmed Tinubu’s victory in the presidential election. Tinubu is a former governor of Lagos State.

A week after the decision, however, the PDP BoT rejected the outcome and said that it will fight any attempts by the APC to impose one-party rule on Nigerians.

In a statement released following the board’s 75th meeting on Thursday in Abuja, acting chairman of the board Senator Adolphus Wabara expressed confidence that the supreme court has the ability and courage to correct the “wrongs” and “errors” found in the tribunal’s judgement in the interest of the nation’s unity, stability, and corporate existence.

The BoT is confident in the Supreme Court’s ability and courage to finally and decisively right the wrongs and fix the obvious flaws in the PEPC judgement in the cause of maintaining the unity, stability, and corporate life of our nation, he said.

“The BoT reiterates its rejection of the decision of the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) upholding the declaration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the February 25, 2023, Presidential election, despite the evidence unmistakably pointing to the contrary,” the statement reads.

“The BoT is also keeping an eye on and researching the results of cases in various election courts with regards to their degree of adherence and respect to the Rule of Law and evidence before such court,” the statement continued.
