The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has stated that the All Progressives Congress, APC, lawmakers in the Rivers House of Assembly are no longer members of the House and therefore cannot impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
According to PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the directive by the state APC chapter for the lawmakers to initiate impeachment proceedings against the governor is futile.
Ologunagba emphasized that the APC lawmakers have already relinquished their seats in the House, as stated in Section 109 (1) (g) of the 1999 Constitution.

He further explained, “The lawmakers who claim to be APC members lost their seats after defecting from the PDP, the political party platform through which they were elected into the House.”
“It is important to note that Section 109 (1) (g) of the 1999 Constitution is self-executory. This means that the members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who defected have automatically vacated their seats due to their defection.”
