Pastor Tobi Adegboyega Calls Davido a Gospel Musician, Refers to Zlatan as His Son
Pastor Tobi Adegboyega makes bold statements, labeling Nigerian artist Davido as a gospel musician and calling rapper Zlatan his son, sparking reactions in the music industry.
Tobi Adegboyega, a vibrant Nigerian pastor based in the United Kingdom (UK), has referred to renowned musician David Adeleke, also known as Davido, as a gospel artist.
Adegboyega clarified that the term “gospel” signifies good news, and Davido is spreading this message.
He addressed a question on the Off The Record podcast about why he chose to invite secular musicians rather than gospel artists to perform at his recent birthday celebration.
Adegboyega referred to Nigerian artist Zlatan as his son.
He explained that “Gospel means good news, and everyone there is a gospel artist. Davido is considered a gospel artist as well. Have you listened to ‘Because I Stand Strong’?”
Back then, I had the incredible support of my friends—those who stand by me no matter what. Davido expressed his desire to simply be present and perform for an hour, saying: “I just want to be there.” These are true friends; none of them asked for payment. They care about me deeply and in return, I’ll always provide opportunities for them.
If gospel artists aren’t supporting me and are instead joining others in criticizing by questioning, “Is that a church?” what should I do? Should I respond harshly to them?
“It will be my friends who are there. Everyone in that room was a friend of mine. Zlatan is like family to me; his children feel like my own, and his parents have been guests in my home. So why should I turn away from them for not being gospel artists, just to find some gospel singers who criticize me and force them to perform?”
“My friends always perform at my events, and the upcoming one will be even larger since I’m constantly expanding my circle of friends.”
