Pastor indicted for allegedly raping and murdering a breastfeeding mother in Ondo
Pastor Kayode Selami, 47, was detained by men from the Ondo State Police Command on suspicion of raping and murdering Adejoke Oloje, a nursing mother.
The victim was reportedly staying at the church with her child when the crime happened, the Nation said.
The deceased’s mother, Mrs. Deborah, said that her late daughter fled without telling anybody until she was discovered dead in the chapel.
She claims, “I contacted her line to enquire about her whereabouts but she didn’t take her calls. Then, one day, several individuals claimed to have seen her in Alade with her cousin Aderonke.
“I got Aderonke’s phone number from their grandmother and contacted her, but she stated Adejoke was staying in the church, not her house.
“My daughter answered the phone when I dialled her number. She gave it to me when I asked for the location’s description.
“I went to the chapel and ultimately located her. She complained about the meal, so I offered to bring some the next day. She refused my pleas for her to go, so I left.

“The next day, I heard her child wailing hysterically when I arrived at the church around 5 o’clock. I thus stepped closer to observe what transpired.
“I greeted the door as it closed. So I pushed it open. I yelled for aid after finding my daughter on the floor with her trousers down, much to my chagrin.
She said that the attending physicians at the hospital to which she was brought verified her daughter’s death.
On the Pastor’s arrest, she stated: “When the Pastor was detained, we discovered that his trouser was ripped beneath and he wasn’t wearing any pants.
“Our family is going through a difficult time because of this heartbreaking story. Before she tragically passed away, she was carrying an 11-month-old baby. The offender must be brought to justice.
Pastor Selami said he just assisted in finding the woman a place to stay, and he denied raping or murdering her.
Of of the two rooms in the church, I gave her one. I omitted to enquire about her relationship with her sister Aderonke.
“There is just one door separating my room from the one she was allocated to stay in. As a result, I frequently went by her room and let her know everytime I left or entered.
We attended a vigil at the church together, and the next morning, I saw her before heading to work because I am a welder. Later, at 2 PM, she came to my workplace to charge her phone before returning around 4 PM to pick it up.
“I utilise the room when I conduct church programmes. My family and I rented a house outside. I did not rape her, and I am unable to explain how she passed away.
The matter has been sent to Akure for additional investigation, according to SP Funmilayo Odunlami Omisanya, a spokeswoman for the Ondo Police.
