Pastor Adeboye Recounts Near-Death Experience from 7 Years Ago

RCCG General Overseer, Pastor E.A. Adeboye, shares how he narrowly escaped death seven years ago, revealing the lessons he learned from the experience.

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has shared a life-threatening experience he encountered seven years ago while participating in an evangelism programme. He attributed this harrowing event to hazardous road conditions.

During the annual Special Holy Ghost Service, themed “Joy Unspeakable,” on Friday, Adeboye shared his experience of a severe health collapse that confined him to a sick bed on Christmas Day for the first time in his life.

He remembered becoming ill in Ilesa, Osun State, and being too weak to withstand a road journey back to the RCCG camp on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. A helicopter was arranged for his transport; however, local troublemakers tried to stop it from leaving, even going so far as breaking one of its windows.

“Seven years ago, while participating in this same program, my body gave out entirely because of the dreadful road conditions,” Adeboye recalled. “For the first time ever, I spent Christmas Day confined to bed.”

He went on to say, “The devil was sure he had finally captured me. I collapsed in Ilesa, and we needed to charter a helicopter to get me back to the camp because I was too weak for road travel—had that been my only option, I wouldn’t have survived.”

They held on tightly to the helicopter, and during this time, one of its windows was damaged. Thankfully, by God’s grace, I was able to make it to the camp. I felt confident that as long as I reached the camp, my recovery would begin.

“Seven years have passed, and I am still here! I ask you to thank God for preserving my life. Please praise Him on my behalf—give Him all the glory, honor, and adoration!”
