The son of the landlord is suspected of stabbing 36-year-old Shonibare Oluwasegun, a minibus driver, to death in the Ajah neighbourhood of Lagos following a dispute over a parking spot, according to Vanguard.
According to eyewitnesses, the father of three made his way back home on Sunday night, November 19, 2023, and parked his minibus, also known as a korope, in front of his complex at 24 Adewunmi Close, Ilaje Ajah.
He had hardly gone to bed when his landlord’s son apparently knocked on his door, startling him out of slumber.
It was alleged that the tenant was given instructions by the landlord’s son to move his minibus from its parking spot. However, it was reported that the late Oluwasegun went outside and insisted that the area was where he always parked.
Following an argument, Oluwasegun was allegedly stabbed in several places on his body by the landlord’s son.
The deceased’s older brother, Shonibare Faid, provided an explanation of how he learned of his death: “I got a call from a private number by 1:29am being a Sunday morning (November 19, 2023) that my brother was dead.” I raced to Ajah as early as 6:20 am, where I saw my brother’s lifeless body in a pool of blood, having been stabbed several times throughout his body.
“After asking, I was informed that his landlord’s son, Adebayo, had phoned him to repark his bus. When he arrived at the location of his minibus, he questioned Adebayo about the reason for telling him to do so, considering that the spot had been his usual parking spot.
“When it became clear he was dead, Adebayo stabbed him and fled with his entire family just as he was about to start the bus.”That his mother encouraged him to keep stabbing my brother is the most astounding thing that has been revealed to us (sobs). “As soon as I saw my brother’s corpse, I rushed down to the nearest police station in Ajah (Ajiwe) to report the case.”
I was informed that attempts were being made to rig the case. The Divisional Crime Officer and his team didn’t visit the place of the incident and take pictures of the bus, the building, my brother’s corpse, and his family home until one of my uncles approached them and spoke with him.
“After that, we were instructed to call for an ambulance, and the police provided an escort to transfer the body to the Yaba Mortuary.
In accordance with Islamic customs, we asked for a police report so that we could bury him, but we were informed that an autopsy was required before determining how to proceed with his corpse’s release. “Justice is all we desire. Because of his family’s influence, he has always gotten away with it in prior circumstances. Justice is all we ask for,” Faid stated.
