On Saturday at the 2024 Olympic Games, Kanyinsola Ajayi and Favour Ashe secured spots in the semi-finals of the men’s 100m event.
The pair is making their first appearance in the Olympic Games.
In Heat 5, Ajayi secured victory with a time of 10.02 seconds and outpaced Olympic champion Lamont Marcell Jacobs who came in second at 10.05 seconds.
Abdul-Rasheed Saminu from Ghana placed third with a time of 10.06 seconds.
Placing fourth in Heat 4, Ashe followed behind Oblique Seville of Jamaica, Abdul Hakim Sani Brown from Japan and Thurpool Bonboon representing Thailand.
However, Ashe secured his spot in the semifinals by clinching the final non-automatic position.
Adaku Nwandu came in at the second spot for Heat 6 of women’s 50m Freestyle, with Elizaveta Pecherskikh finishing ahead.
The teen, who was 16 years old, did not qualify for the final.
