Pardoned Osun Chicken Thief and Collaborator Set to Leave Prison Tomorrow – Source
A source reveals that the pardoned chicken thief and his collaborator from Osun will be released from prison tomorrow following their controversial conviction.
Signs have surfaced that the paperwork for releasing convicted chicken thief, Segun Olowookere, and his accomplice, Sunday Morakinyo—both recently pardoned by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke—is expected to be finalized on Monday.
It was understood that this would enable the duo to return to their hometown in Okuku either on the same day or by Tuesday.
The Monsurat Ajoke Foundation, a key advocate for Olowookere’s release since the sentencing, shared this information during an interview with Sunday Tribune on Saturday.
The foundation’s convener, Monsurat Ajoke, stated that once the release documents are finalized, he would be a free man.
She also expressed gratitude to the state governor for granting pardons to convicts.
Ajoke emphasized that the documents would need to be finalized at Lagos Maximum Prison before Olowookere could be released. She mentioned that they were unable to complete this process during their last visit on Friday.
Ajoke also revealed that Olowookere is currently pursuing a nursing education at a correctional facility in Abeokuta. She noted that despite facing challenges, “Segun has shown remarkable resilience and determination.”
He was recently praised by the correctional center authorities for his outstanding behavior and conduct.
She mentioned that Segun has proactively sought educational opportunities during his incarceration. He decided to study nursing, motivated by a wish to gain skills that will allow him to positively contribute to society once he is released.
Segun’s story exemplifies the human spirit’s remarkable ability to grow, find redemption, and transform. His journey powerfully reminds us that everyone is entitled to a second chance.
It is worth noting that Olowookere was sentenced to death by an Osun State High Court on December 17, 2014. This sentence was for conspiracy to commit armed robbery, armed robbery, and stealing following his arrest and conviction in November 2010.
The issue gained widespread attention on social media after his mother appealed to Nigerians for assistance in the matter.
In response to the public outcry, Governor Adeleke granted pardons to Olowookere, Morakinyo, and 51 additional inmates.
