Professor Isa Ali Pantami, a former minister of communications and digital economy for Nigeria, has been named by the African Union (AU) as co-chairman of the African Scientific Research and Innovation Council (AU-ASRIC).
With an impact on all 54 African nations, Pantami’s new position will help shape the continent’s policies and plans for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR).
Having founded the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (NCAIR) and formulated Nigeria’s Digital Economy Policy with an emphasis on cutting-edge technology, Professor Pantami is a well-known person in the field of digital innovation.

He is an important figure in Africa’s efforts to undergo digital transformation because of his leadership in advancing the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Adding to his stature in the industry, Pantami became the first African Fellow of the UK’s Chartered Institute of Information Security. Together with Professor Anicia Nicola Peter of Namibia, a specialist in emerging technologies and human-computer interaction, he will co-chair the council.
The council, which is made up of eminent academics and politicians, including specialists from Tunisia and Morocco, will concentrate on developing innovations that will propel Africa’s technological advancement, including robotics, blockchain, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.
