The much-awaited livestock reforms report addressing the farmer-herder conflict is set for release in two weeks. Get the latest details.

Assuming no unexpected occurrences, the Livestock Reforms Committee plans to present their report to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu within two weeks.

Yesterday, at the State House in Abuja, Professor Attahiru Jega – Co-Chairman of the Committee – hinted about their progress to the President when he updated him on their activities.

Nigerians were given assurance by the ex-Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that the committee’s recommendations would bring about a permanent resolution to the ongoing disputes between farmers and herders.

Accompanied by Agriculture and Food Security Minister, Senator Abubakar Kyari, Prof Jega expressed that the report would greatly enhance the livestock industry and alleviate any related crises.

He emphasized that the stakeholders in the sector are prepared to collaborate and participate actively towards achieving a long-lasting remedy.

According to Jega, it is our belief that within the next fourteen days, we can provide a report to Mr. President. Upon receiving this report, we will commence with implementing the plan accordingly.

Our committee’s recommendations have the potential to add immense value towards achieving defined objectives, unlocking opportunities in the livestock sector and mitigating conflicts that often occur within this industry. Nigerian citizens should anticipate these positive outcomes if our suggestions are effectively executed.

Although our committee is tasked with guiding implementation, not actually performing it, I am confident that we will be able to contribute significant value. However, for these reform measures to succeed in their objectives, a diverse group of stakeholders must come together and work collaboratively towards their realization.

From what I’ve observed thus far in the livestock sector, a multitude of stakeholders throughout the value chain seem eager and prepared to collaborate towards establishing sustainable solutions for addressing long-standing challenges. This has left me feeling extremely contented.

A complete report will be made available to Nigerians, which will serve as a roadmap for implementing reforms that foster a more tranquil and prolific livestock industry.
