Panel Lifts Suspension After Clearing Tobi Amusan Of Doping Offences
The medal contender will compete at the World Athletics Championship scheduled for Budapest, Hungary, as of Thursday’s development.
Tobi Amusan, a track star from Nigeria, has had her interim suspension removed after being found not guilty of doping offences.
“A panel of the Disciplinary Tribunal, by majority decision, has today found that Tobi Amusan has not committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) of three Whereabouts Failures within a 12-month period,” the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) stated in a statement on Thursday night.
“AIU Head Brett Clothier has stated that the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) is dissatisfied by this judgement and will examine the grounds in further detail before determining whether to use its right of appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) by the due date.
“The choice is now secret but will be made public when the time comes. The temporary suspension of Amusan has now been revoked with immediate effect.
On Sunday, July 2, 2023, Tobi Amusan competes in the 100-meter hurdles in the Stockholm Diamond League.
The Nigerian, who holds the record for the women’s hurdles, was given a two-year suspension in July after failing three drug tests within a 12-month period.
Nigeria’s hopes of competing were severely hurt by her ban. Amusan was not included in Nigeria’s delegation to the World Athletics Championship, which is scheduled to start on Saturday, as a result of the development.
However, with Thursday’s development, the medal contender will compete in the event scheduled for Budapest, Hungary.
