Umar Bindir, a former Secretary to the Adamawa State Government, expressed his belief that the distribution of palliatives in Nigeria has not effectively reduced poverty.

During an interview on Channels Television, Bindir referred to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, which indicates that approximately 40% of the Nigerian population lacks basic necessities such as shelter, food, and clothing.

He criticized the approach of providing items like tricycles and salon materials, stating that this does not create sustainable employment opportunities. According to Bindir, addressing poverty requires a technical and committed approach that aligns solutions with the specific needs of individuals.

He also highlighted the failure of poverty alleviation programs implemented by the Federal Government since 1999, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive strategy that involves training the masses in technical vocations related to agriculture.

Bindir concluded by emphasizing the importance of passionate government officials and collaboration between the federal and state governments in eradicating poverty.
