In response to the deteriorating state of the road, Umahi issued directives to contractors responsible for federal road projects in the South-East and South-South regions, urging them to expedite their work and ensure that all construction adheres to the specified contract requirements.

Additionally, Umahi highlighted the significant cost-saving measures implemented by the federal government, amounting to over N300 billion, following the identification of a critical issue near the Second Niger Bridge in Onitsha, Nigeria.

The Minister’s sentiments were conveyed through a statement released by his spokesperson, Uchenna Orji, where Umahi expressed empathy for commuters who have to endure the poor road conditions, emphasizing the urgent need for improvement.

Umahi called upon the contractors, CCECC, as well as other relevant officials, to take immediate action within the next seven days to ensure a smoother and safer travel experience for road users.

Furthermore, Umahi highlighted a recent inspection visit to Asaba and Onitsha, where a defective design for the second Niger Bridge bypass was identified and subsequently rectified, resulting in substantial cost savings for the country.
