OYSIEC: We won’t take Amotekun on in the LG poll
The Western Nigerian Security Network (WNSN), commonly known as Amotekun, would not be involved in the conduct of the upcoming election, according to the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC).
Isiaka Olagunju, the chairman of OYSIEC, made this proclamation on Thursday at the NUJ Correspondents Chapel’s guest platform presentation called “Speak Out.”
According to OBASANJO NEWS24, the commission has finalised arrangements to hold the local government election in April of 2019.
Speaking at the Ibadan event, Olagunju stated that the commission will not collaborate with Amotekun but rather involve the police, army, DSS, and NSCDC in the election’s administration.
He stated that OYSIEC is prepared to deploy at least 18,000 employees to make sure the election proceeds as planned.
He also mentioned that OYSIEC would soon be screening political party candidates.
“Police play a crucial role in security issues during election management. We’ve been to the NSCDC, the Correctional Service, the Army, the DSS, and the Police.
To avoid the suggestion that we would employ Amotekun to scare the populace, we might decide against engaging them. We’re going to interact with the police, army, DSS, NSCDC, and even the prison.
“Oyo State currently has approximately 6,000 polling places, and each one will have at least three voters. As a result, we will employ around 18,000 people. We’ll work with them and provide the required instruction,” he said.
