The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) chapters in Oyo State have advised employees not to report to work on Monday.

This assertion was made by the unions on Friday in a joint press release that was signed by TUC Chairman Comrade Bosun Olabiyi Agoro and NLC Chairperson Comrade Kayode Martins.

The state’s labour unions recommended all employees to skip work on Monday and instead report to the NLC secretariat in preparation for a congress.

The unions said that all employees should gather up all of their personal belongings from the office on Friday (today) and report to the NLC secretariat, Agodi Gate, in Ibadan, on Monday, following the expiration of the ultimatum served on the state government, which has not yet offered a long-term solution to their grievances.

Pensioners in the state were also ordered to participate by the unions.

The statement denounced Comrade Joe Ajaero, the President of the NLC, for his recent attack in Imo.

The unions will keep fighting for the rights and wellbeing of workers in the state and across the nation, they continued.

“On Wednesday, November 2, 2023, in Imo State, the despondent Government of Hope Uzodinma and the police force attacked the National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress. We, the Oyo State Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), stand united and strongly condemn in totality.

“We consider this heinous event to be an insult to the basic freedoms and rights of the Nigerian workforce as well as a concerning illustration of the oppressive actions taken by certain State Governments against the labour movement.

Finally, the Oyo State NLC and TUC would like to state unequivocally that we will not accept this attack on the NLC National President or any other labour leader lightly. We are unwavering in our resolve to protect the welfare and rights of workers in Oyo State and across Nigeria.

“All employees should remove all personal belongings from the office on Friday, November 3, 2023, and pensioners in the state are to resume at NLC Secretariat Agodi Gate on Monday, November 6, 2023, for the largest congress in Oyo state history for further directives, following the expiration of the ultimatum served on the State Government who have yet to proffer lasting solution to our grievances,” the statement stated.
