On Friday, the Oyo State Government issued a directive ordering all recently appointed political figures to return any official vehicles given to them by no later than August 25.
All individuals who worked under Gov. Seyi Makinde during his initial term were ordered to follow the directive by Prof. Olanike Adeyemo, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), in a letter.
However, the circular said that the state government has made specific categories of political officeholders exempt from the rule.
These individuals include the state’s chief judge, the state’s deputy chief judge, the speaker of the state’s house of assemblies, and other members of the assembly.
The following individuals are also exempt: Judges, the Secretary to the State Government, the Chief of Staff, the Head of Service, Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, the Accountant-General, Auditor-General, and the Surveyor-General.
The second group of individuals exempted from the rule, according to Adeyemo, is made up of those who received vehicles as presents at the state governor’s discretion.
The scheduling officers at their various ministries, departments, and agencies should receive the documentation from officials who have it to corroborate their claim of receiving official vehicles as gifts. He said, “(MDAs).
Those who are still in possession of government cars without the proper authorization were urged by the SSG to return them by the deadline on August 25.
According to him, “Schedule officers in MDAs in the State Public/Civil Service are mandated to recover official vehicles that have been taken away without due authorization if not returned on or before August 25.”(NAN)
