Oyo Crisis Deepens: Nine Princes Oppose Owoade’s Alaafin Appointment (Full List)
In a dramatic turn, nine royal princes in Oyo reject the selection of Owoade as Alaafin, citing grievances over the appointment process and traditional practices.
In a surprising development, the Atiba 9, a group of nine princes from Oyo Kingdom’s royal families, have refused to accept Prince Abimbola Owoade as the newly appointed Alaafin of Oyo.
Governor Seyi Makinde’s decision has ignited significant controversy, as the Atiba 9 claim that the appointment breaches the kingdom’s esteemed traditions and customs.
The Atiba 9 criticized Governor Makinde for his apparent disregard for Oyo’s rich cultural heritage by independently declaring Owoade as the Alaafin. They claimed that this decision was influenced by Professor Wande Abimbola, a United States-based Awise Agbaye (global ambassador of Ifa).
In a statement released by Prince Sina Afolabi of the Adeitan Royal Family, it was further alleged that Professor Abimbola asserted Ifa divination had selected Owoade as the rightful heir to the throne.
The Atiba 9, however, contend that the process disregarded established protocols and traditional rites essential to selecting an Alaafin.
