The Oyo State House of Assembly has ordered Adebola Hamzat, the state’s commissioner of police, to conduct a thorough inquiry into the recent altercation between two rival gangs in Ibadan.
On Thursday, the House disclosed this information.
According to information obtained by OBASANJO NEWS24, two competing drug gangs engaged in combat in Ibadan’s Odo-Osun neighbourhood.
The occurrence took place on July 25, 2023. During the altercation, many persons suffered significant injuries.
However, the state’s legislators have urged the police commissioner to look into the situation.
In response to a motion made by Hon. O.A. Babalola, who represents Ibadan North East State Constituency 1, at the House’s session on Thursday in Ibadan, the House issued the instruction.
Speaking, Babalola stated that an immediate investigation was required.
He said that during the altercation, at least five people were shot, including Mr. Mudashiru Osungbemi, 53.
The House then urged the Commissioner of Police to conduct a comprehensive investigation through Divisional Police Officer Oremeji-Agugu, Ibadan.
Additionally, the senators asked the authorities to find the attack’s planners.
The legislators additionally requested that the police submit an updated report to the House within two weeks.
In order to avoid other nasty episodes, the House also encouraged the police to step up their presence and surveillance in the Odo-Osun neighbourhood.
The state government was compelled by the House to offer free medical care to the clash victims.
