Singer Ikuforiji Olaitan, better known as Oxlade, has recounted experiencing racial abuse in France.
On a recent episode of ‘The Datebizz’ podcast, the singer shared that this experience inspired the title of his debut album, ‘Oxlade From Africa.’
He recounted, “I chose to name my album ‘Oxlade From Africa’ because I experienced racial abuse in France, specifically in Monaco.”

That experience opened my eyes to embracing my African identity and made me aware of the stigma attached to it.
In Africa, we view ourselves as ordinary human beings but outside our continent, some perceive us unfairly as lesser or different.
Oxlade, who graduated in History and International Relations, also argued that the terms Africa and Nigeria are both derogatory.
