Onyebuchi Steven, a driver employed by the Government House Umuahia, was involved in an accident with a commercial motorbike rider on Sunday in Ohafia. Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has ordered Steven’s immediate suspension pending an inquiry.

According to a statement from the state’s government office that Chief Press Secretary Kazie Uko provided to OBASANJO NEWS24, an inquiry would be done to determine if the driver was at fault or not.

In addition, Otti reportedly gave Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo, the commissioner for health, instructions to follow up and see that injured okada rider Orji Felix had the finest care possible without incurring any costs on his part or those of his family.

Felix, who had just picked up a passenger by the roadside and was ready to ride off, was apparently struck by Steven, the driver of a Toyota Hilux pickup truck.

The motorcycle rider and his passenger were immediately taken to a hospital close to the scene of the collision, according to the state administration, which happened on Federal Road near the Old Soldier junction in Ohafia.

Felix, according to Okoronkwo, sustained many fractures on his left leg and right arm, while the passenger was only given basic medical attention and then released from a nearby hospital in Ohafia.

The 18-year-old Okada rider was later transported in an ambulance from Ohafia to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, following first aid treatment from Dr. Okoronkwo, who also wrapped his damaged arm and leg.

“Felix is now being treated in the FMC’s Crowther Ward, where he is admitted. His status was regarded as very stable by the on-call nurses as of Sunday night, according to the statement.

The patient was spotted conversing with staff members and giving answers to their questions as he was now receiving complete medical care. In response to a question regarding the pain in his left leg, he stated, “The pain is not much again.”
