Femi Otedola, a multibillionaire businessman, has congratulated Aliko Dangote on the Dangote Refinery’s official opening.

Otedola referred to the refinery as the eighth “Wonder of the World” in a post on his verified X handle on Sunday.

He declared: “I sincerely congratulate my closest friend @AlikoDangote on the official start of construction of the $20 billion (twenty billion dollars) @DangoteGroup Refinery, the eighth wonder of the world. Not only is the Dangote Petrochemical Complex an industrial marvel, but it also bears witness to the visionary leadership and unwavering pursuit of excellence of one of Africa’s finest and most resilient patriots. It comprises the world’s largest single-train 650,000 barrels per day Petroleum Refinery, a 1 million metric tonnes per-annum facility producing Polypropylene, and two of the largest fertiliser trains in the world, capable of producing 3 million tonnes of urea.

I watched from the front row as this notion was conceived and developed. And I know the restless nights you’ve spent over the past ten years trying to make this dream come true.

A source of hope for millions of Africans and Nigerians is this refinery. Additionally, it leads the charge in promoting environmental sustainability. It will contribute significantly to lowering well-to-tank carbon emissions from crude oil maritime transportation and will capture up to 90%+ of the CO2 emitted thanks to its carbon capture technologies and storage procedures. This will help Nigeria reach its goal of net-zero emissions by 2060.

In the Refinery, all of the water is recycled 100%. 50 MW of power are produced when all of the process’s heat is captured. In addition, Dangote is manufacturing Euro 5 to replace the subpar Euro 5 that has long been dumped in Africa. By exporting 65,000 barrels of crude oil per day from Nigeria and 650kbpd of refined products to Nigeria and neighbouring countries—a total of 480 ships carrying one million barrels per day—1.5 million to 2.5 million tonnes of CO2 emissions will be avoided. The environment will benefit from this.

It would support energy security and independence for our country and serve as a catalyst for a new age of prosperity for the subcontinent by fulfilling our demand for all refined petroleum products. For current and future generations of Nigerians, it promises economic transformation.

Best wishes, @AlikoDangote. Africa is pleased with you!
