OsunPoly: The state government implements a “no work, no pay” policy
The Osun State Government has announced that starting on Monday, August 14, 2023, it will apply the no work, no pay policy to employees at the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.
Abiodun Oloyede, the institution’s acting registrar, signed a memo that contained the instruction.
“Sequel to the government directive that the Institution should re-open fully on Monday, August 14, 2023,” he said. “Hon Diran Ayanbeku has directed that all staff of the Institution should report without fail to commence the suspended Part-Time students First Semester Examination immediately.”
Ayanbeku also gave the order to open attendance records in the Personnel Unit of the Institution’s Registry so that the staff could sign in and out each day.
The email further stated that anyone on staff who refused to perform academic obligations would face appropriate consequences.
When the State government removed the institution’s rector, Dr. Tajudeen Odetayo, OBASANJO NEWS24 recalled that the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, OsunPoly, Iree branch had halted academic operations.
Odetayo was put on administrative leave for alleged financial misconduct and misuse of power.
The ASUP members were not pleased with the State government’s choice to name Kehinde Alabi as Acting Rector.
The State government also established a panel of inquiry to look into the claims.
OsunPoly ASUP had argued that the State government’s choice to choose Alabi as Acting Rector did not adhere to established protocol.
In addition to these, the Non Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, or NASU, and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics, or SSANIP, both participated in the strike before withdrawing later.
Last Thursday, students from the college demonstrated against the issue outside the State Secretariat in Abere.
The State administration and OsunPoly ASUP were ordered to resolve their issues by the students.
In response to the students’ demand, Ademola Adeleke, the State Governor, who was represented by Kola Adewusi, his deputy, gave the students the assurance that classes would resume on Monday, August 14, 2023.
