Ibrahim Qudus, an applicant for admission, was killed on Sunday at the Okanla community in the Irepodun Local Government Area of the State, according to the Osun State Police Command.
According to OBASANJO NEWS24, Qudus was assassinated on Sunday when armed men attacked the palace of Olokanla of Okanla.
Additionally, it was said that after killing Qudus, the Olokanla palace was burned down.
The Command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the occurrence and said Patrick Kehinde Longe, the commissioner of police, had attended the crime scene.
More operatives have been sent to the area, according to Opalola.
“Someone was burned with a car around Okanla, the area is between Ifon and Ilobu,” she claimed.
“To prevent further law and order breakdown, we have sent our personnel to the area. The Police Commissioner has visited the location, according to Opalola.
Jimoh Qadri, an uncle of the dead, revealed that the attackers were commanded by a man who went by the name of Naim.
Naim is the only one of the attackers who, according to Qadri, did not cover his face throughout the encounter.
Qadri, who was unable to provide an explanation for the incident, claimed that the attackers first invaded his home but did not encounter him before moving on to the residence of his later father, Oba Jimoh Adigun, the Olokanla of Okanla, who used it as his palace before passing away.
“On Sunday morning, when I wasn’t at home, my wife called to tell me that 20 or more gunmen had attacked my home in the Okanla neighbourhood.
“She said they all had their faces covered, but the one carrying Naim had his face exposed, and my wife saw him. The attackers looked throughout the home in their pursuit of me.
The building was vandalised after they failed to locate me, and they then went to my family’s home, which my late father, Olokanla of Okanla, used as his castle.
Qudus, a son of my older brother who had lately moved back home to apply for a university entrance after taking the UTME, was present when they arrived, he recalled.
He claimed that after killing his nephew, Naim and his group placed the body of the victim in a car that was parked on the property and set the car on fire.
“They also ignited a fire in the palace. I’m not aware of the motive for the attack. But it’s possible that there’s a link between it and the local land dispute. The family is begging with the security services to make sure that the criminals are caught, he continued.
According to OBASANJO NEWS24, the Osun State Government has imposed an immediate dusk to dawn curfew in the state’s Irepodun and Orolu local government areas.
The administration claimed that the curfew was necessary to keep both communities peace and order.
A farmer named Sodiq Alamu was also slain on Saturday in the hamlet of Opapa in the Irepodun Local Government.
The ownership of a piece of property that borders both the Ilobu and Ifon-Osun settlements has also been the subject of an ongoing dispute between the two communities.
