An Osun lawmaker is facing potential recall as constituents express dissatisfaction with his performance, signaling tough times ahead for the politician as he navigates growing discontent.

Rabiu Atanda, the lawmaker representing Iwo State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly is facing tough times due to accusations of inadequate representation.

The constituents have threatened to recall the lawmaker, as it stands.

On Monday, OBASANJONEWS received an open letter signed by Ayo-Akano Ayokunmi representing the Iwoland Indigenes Council that contained a warning of recall.

In an open letter, the Iwoland Indigenes Council alleged that Atanda had not been active in the House of Assembly.

Furthermore, they accused the legislator of failing to introduce or support any legislation since his election and induction into the Assembly.

He was accused by The Council of not opening a Constituency Office in Iwo, which made it difficult for constituents to provide him with feedback.

They acknowledged that leadership is a daunting task, but they also noticed that since you were inaugurated in June 2023, you have remained silent on the House floor. Further, despite expectations of opening a constituency office and making public your team members to aid communication with constituents; neither has occurred yet.

It is lamentable that despite our efforts to scour Iwo, we are unable to identify a single undertaking or initiative influenced by your role as a legislator.

Your media team claimed on Facebook in July 2024 that you had inaugurated the construction of two offices at Oluwo and Kara market. We are interested to know about the progress made since your team promised completion within three months.

It is worth mentioning that you have not proposed any bill or put forward a motion in the House regarding the state of road networks in Iwo and the Osogbo-Iwo Road’s dilapidated condition. It has been used as a political campaign model by many officeholders.

You have neglected to offer feedback to those you represent through various communication channels such as television, radio, and social media platforms in your capacity as a House member.

The group expressed its hope that the concerns raised would be addressed promptly and thus prevent any need for further communication. If unaddressed, it may prompt Iwo residents to initiate a recall process against the member of the house.

Atanda dismissed the accusation of inadequate representation and emphasized that it was premature to evaluate his performance.

The lawmaker responded by releasing a statement that he personally signed, outlining several accomplishments made during his time in office.

He informed that he now has a Constituency Office in Iwo, which effectively tackled various concerns of his constituents.

To summarize, our constituency office is located at D.C. School in Olukotun Iwo and we have successfully tackled numerous issues to the best of our capacity.

You mentioned the Osogbo-Iwo Road, which has been brought to the attention of both the governor and addressed on the House floor.

Based on the information I received, Peculiar (Consult) was awarded the road project during the previous administration and has been invited twice already.

As promised, two offices were inaugurated and the bricklayers immediately began their work. With God’s special grace, they will be ready for inauguration in three months from now.

He announced, “I’d like to inform everyone about our free holiday classes for SS1, SS2 and SS3 students as part of our skill acquisition and youth empowerment program. Additionally, we will be providing free WAEC registration for the most outstanding students.”
