Osun Crisis: Adeleke Govt Reacts as APC Calls for State of Emergency

Tensions rise in Osun as Governor Adeleke’s administration condemns APC’s demand for a state of emergency amid the ongoing political crisis.
The All Progressives Congress (APC), the opposition party in Osun State, has called on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency there.
This follows a new development in the political tension within the State on Monday, with reports of some people being killed.
In the meantime, the state government has declined the APC’s request for a state of emergency, accusing them of intentionally creating chaos to fulfill their objectives.
The National Secretary of the APC, Senator Ajibola Basiru, and Osun State’s Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, both appeared as guests on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” program on Monday.
When asked to propose a solution for the ongoing political crisis in Osun State, Senator Bashiru stated, “I would suggest that it may be necessary for the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency.”
“We’ve reached a point where defenseless individuals returning from farms are being attacked by unruly PDP thugs.”
Alimi strongly disagreed, stating, “I urge our esteemed president to dismiss the appeal made by Honourable Bashiru and his associates. Their actions were intentional; they deliberately incited chaos in this state.”
We will be releasing the names of our members who have been killed. No Court of Appeal has brought them back, so we encourage everyone to follow a path of peace.
Reports indicate that at least two people died in Osun State on Monday when reinstated local government chairmen and councillors resumed office across the state’s 30 local councils. They claimed their return was to enforce a court ruling.
The takeover attempt prompted resistance in locations such as Oshogbo (the state capital), Ikire, and the Irewole local government areas. This unrest resulted in the death of Remi Abbas, one of the reinstated council chairmen.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has directed the deployment of extra tactical squads to the State to enhance security and reestablish law and order.
The police strongly denounced the incidents that disturbed peace and safety in the state, pledging to bring those responsible to justice.
