Osun APC raises the alarm that we are under attack following Adeleke’s takeover.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter in Osun state claims that since Governor Ademola Adeleke entered office, hoodlums have attacked 500 of its members.

The restoration of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to power in Osun, according to acting APC chairman Tajudeen Lawal, “has signalled the resumption of brigandage and political siege of yesteryears.”

He requested that Usman Baba, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), act quickly.

Lawal said that several assets, including APC campaign trucks and billboards, had been demolished on the previous day, notably in Osogbo, the state capital.

We have known since yesterday that the old animals are back in charge, but we had no idea the degree of the destruction they would wreak in Osun less than 24 hours after the inauguration.
The easiest way to characterize Monday is as a bad day for our beloved State.

“We are afflicted and worried about public order, especially the safety of our thronging members and supporters in Osun, which has been facing grave security threats since Senator Ademola Adeleke was sworn in as the governor of Osun State yesterday.

More than 500 APC members had been attacked as of this morning’s tally, and a car with the APC campaign logo was set on fire in Osogbo’s Ayetoro neighbourhood.

As of the time this message was released, the continuous mindless attack had already spread to Ile Ife, Ilesa, Iwo, Ede, Ila, and Ikirun, and several of our party members had suffered varying degrees of injuries and gun wounds at the Old Garage, Ogo – Oluwa in Osogbo.

In the attack at Old Garage, where the Anti-Cultist Police unit team provided cover for hoodlums to attack innocent people in the area, some members of the Nigerian Police Force sadly served as a shield for the criminals. It is regrettable to see political thugs openly carrying guns and shooting randomly throughout the state.

You might remember that we expressed worry last week about the PDP’s alleged preparations to assault and demolish our party’s campaign headquarters.
We feel justified today since the attacks followed a pattern and method we had observed and reported to the authorities.

We are not shocked because the PDP and the incoming governor have a history of violence and brigandage, but it is regrettable that 12 years later, Osun is once again experiencing the locust era.

In response, Prince Diran Odeyemi, a former deputy national publicity secretary for the PDP, suggested that the APC Chairman report the incident to security personnel for “proper action.”

“It is too early for us to start joining issues with APC,” Odeyemi stated. We are currently too preoccupied with governance. They should notify the police if something like that occurs so that they can respond appropriately.
