The 24-year-old placed first overall, surpassing Mohamed Salah and Achraf Hakimi.
After Nwankwo Kanu in 1999, he was the first Nigerian to capture the gong.
Osimhen made his Super Eagles debut under Rohr, and the coach is confident the forward can lead the team to victory at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.
“After scoring so many goals and performing so well (for club and country), I’m thrilled that Osimhen won the Africa Best Player Award of 2023,” Rohr said to Nation Sport.
“He can lead the Super Eagles to an AFCON championship, of course, with his goals; I hope he does.”
