Osimhen targets new mark as Napoli hosts Lazio in Serie A

When Napoli plays Lazio at the Stadium Diego Armando Maradona tonight, Victor Osimhen will try to become the second player in history to score from open play in nine straight Serie A games.

Just former Juventus forward David Trezeguet has succeeded in doing so.

Osimhen has scored in each of Napoli’s previous eight league games, and the team currently leads the table by 18 points.

With 19 goals in 20 games, the Nigerian international is now Serie A’s top scorer.

On Friday, the 24-year-old received a nomination for February’s Player of the Month honour.

Napoli will also aim to set a club record by winning five straight games without giving up a goal.
