The Nigerian’s goals were crucial in the club’s first league championship in 33 years and third total.
Victor Osimhen has been awarded the Serie A Golden Boot for scoring the most goals during the 2022/23 season. This accomplishment makes him the first African to win the award.
The Napoli hero scored 26 goals in 32 matches, defeating Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez to win the prestigious “Capocannoniere” award.
Osimhen had tallied 25 goals prior to Sunday’s match between Napoli and Sampdoria. Then, he scored from the penalty spot to add another goal to his total as his team won 2-0.
“This season has been spectacular for me, my comrades, and Napoli. We merited it,” Osimhen told DAZN before contemplating the possibility of a lucrative summer exit.
“I don’t know, that’s up to the president. I adore the citizens of Naples because they have shown me so much affection. I don’t care what the president determines; I’ll just go with the tide.”

Earlier in the season, the Super Eagle received the award for Best Striker.
Africans attempted to obtain the bounty for years prior to Sunday’s announcement. While playing in Italy, Africa’s only Ballon d’Or recipient, George Weah, was unable to earn the award.
Simy Nwankwo, a teammate of Osimhen, competed for the Capocannoniere in the 2020/21 season. He scored 20 league goals for Crotone, but finished ninth behind Cristiano Ronaldo by nine goals.
In the 2010-2011 season, the Cameroonian legend Samuel Eto appeared to have the best chance of winning the award.
He scored 21 league goals, five fewer than Edinson Cavani of Napoli and seven fewer than Antonio Di Natale of Udinese, who scored 28 goals.
