Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, delivered his campaign pledges in a “very cohesive manner,” according to Adams Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo State.
On Wednesday, Oshiomhole remarked during a live broadcast on Channels Television’s Politics Today, “Tinubu has pledged what he is going to do in a very clear manner.”
“See what he (Tinubu) accomplished in Lagos. Look at how he mobilized resources from a state that was generating N600m IGR (internally generated income) to what it currently earns in a month to see what the true problem in Nigeria is. He can thus make difficult judgments, the speaker said.
According to the deputy director general of the Tinubu-Shettima Campaign Council, Tinubu is a supporter of reorganizing Nigeria, and he proved this by establishing more local government councils in Lagos while he served as governor from 1999 to 2007.
Oshiomhole, a former leader of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), defended Tinubu’s decision to oust Akinwunmi Ambode as governor of Lagos in favor of Babajide Sanwo-Olu by claiming that the latter had outperformed the former official.
“PDP Is to Blame for Fuel Shortage”
Particularly in Lagos and Abuja, car owners have struggled for weeks to purchase gasoline from gas stations. While most stores remain closed, the handful that are open offer the essential good for as much as N250 per litre in contrast to the standard price of N169 per litre.
Long, arduous lines of drivers and business owners jostling for petrol at the few open filling stations have resulted from the paucity of supplies, with some turning to the illicit market. Traffic on key roads has also been worse as a result of car owners blocking at least one lane to join lines at gas stations.
Speaking on Wednesday, Oshiomhole attributed the nation’s perpetual gasoline shortage to the PDP’s failure to upgrade Nigeria’s refineries during its 16 years in power, from 1999 to 2015.
“We must inquire as to who sabotaged the refineries. What state were the refineries in in 1999? The PDP held sway from 1999 until 2015, a period of 16 years. You will pass out if they reveal the amount they claimed to have spent on maintaining these refineries over the course of these 16 years.
“And a PDP president, that was (Olusegun) Obasanjo, chose to privatize the refineries. Toward the conclusion of his administration, another PDP president came and altered the privatization, promising that petroleum would be accessible in six months,” he added.
Therefore, if you must discuss refinery upkeep, you must go back to the PDP’s 16-year rule since they were unable to resolve the issue.
