On Monday, the promoters of the 2nd Cycling Lagos announced that Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu would lead a slew of celebrities in the race slated for October 2023.

Bamidele Adeleye, one of the organisers of the 2nd Cycling Lagos, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sidelines of a press conference to announce the 2023 edition.

According to NAN, the inaugural Cycling Lagos event in 2018 drew 1,000 cyclists from both within and beyond Nigeria.

‘Greener Ride’ is the theme of the 2nd Cycling Lagos.

Bamidele Adeleye, Chief Executive Officer of BrandEscort Communications, the organisers of the Cycling Lagos 2023, stated that the competition would attract more celebrities and personalities who were expected to attend the epic occasion.

“After the successful first edition, we have improved the attractions for the second edition.” We now have more participants in the celebrity race, as well as increased public knowledge of the sport.

“We have a one-of-a-kind feature for the 2023 edition, and we are delighted to have invited Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to grace the occasion.”

“We’re in contact because we want to take advantage of this opportunity to show the world the enormous benefits of cycling in the twenty-first century.”

“Many other professionals and celebrities have jumped on board with the noble idea we’re promoting for the 2023 edition, ‘Greener Ride,’ primarily for the environmental benefits of cycling.”

“Cycling as a mode of transportation is both cost effective and reduces the poisonous emissions from modes of transportation that use fossil fuels,” he explained.

Moses Kolawole, Director of Sports Development at the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), told NAN that the state is always eager to collaborate on projects that benefit human nature, particularly sports.

“This is part of Lagos State’s development plan; as we all know, our governor is known as Mr Sports, and this type of event piques his interest.”

“Any sport that will propel Lagos State to the forefront of leading states in human capacity development will be supported by the Lagos State government.”

“This competition allows our young people to showcase their talents, and we are delighted to be a part of it.”

“We, as a commission, (LSSC), are more determined to devote all of our efforts to the growth of sports in the state, particularly grassroots development,” he stated.

According to NAN, the 2nd Cycling Lagos will kick off on October 21 with the children’s edition at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.

Professionals, celebrities, youngsters, corporate/veterans, and amateurs are all eligible to compete in the 2023 edition.

According to the promoters, the Greener Ride edition of Cycling Lagos is intended to promote an environmentally responsible lifestyle.
