The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, Matthew Kukah, has come under fire from the Special Advisor to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, over his criticism of his boss, President Muhammadu Buhari.

In his Easter message from 2023, Kukah had criticised Buhari, saying: “As you prepare to return to Daura or Kaduna, I do not know if you feel fulfilled or that you met the tall dreams and goals you set for yourself, such as ending banditry, beating corruption, bringing back our girls, belonging to everyone and belonging to nobody, selling off our presidential fleet and travelling with us, etc.”

Adesina responded to Kukah’s comments by saying that the bishop is too political and that his views are influenced by politics.

Adesina said on Monday on Politics Today on Channels Television.

“Such items don’t do Father Kukah’s logical stance justice.” “Although his beliefs have been influenced by politics, he is someone we have always liked for his intellectual inclination,” Adesina added.

Kukah mentioned selling the presidential fleet. Was that ever promised? You are aware that reckless declarations were made in 2015 that even the candidates were unaware of. How then can he begin to say that I promised that?” he questioned.

“Are we back where we were on the banditry issue in 2015?” he continued. While the task is not yet over, are we still where we were? “Our country is not where it was in 2015,” he added. “If Fr. Kukah is true to himself and loyal to his calling, he will realise that.

“Let him (Kukah) establish that the President made that commitment on the sale of our presidential fleet,” he remarked.
