Operation Haskanite: Boko Haram Ambush Claims the Lives of General and Senior Officers

Six senior officers and soldiers from Chad’s armed forces lost their lives, and several others were injured, in a deadly attack by Boko Haram insurgents.
The assault on the Chadian troops, characterized as both intense and violent, underscores the persistent dangers confronting the region’s security forces.
Counter-insurgency expert and security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that the ambush took place on Friday, November 8, shortly after President Mahamat Idriss Déby left the area for Ndjamena, the capital.
The fallen officers comprise notable military figures, including General Youssouf Abdoulaye Kari, General Adoum Issa, Colonel Lony Allatchi, Lieutenant Colonel Gorou Wardougou, Adam Nassour Mahamat, and Idrissa Malloum.

The attack left several individuals wounded, including General François Tatiko, General Moubarack Formalick, Bokhit Bachar, Lieutenant Jean Pierre Medar, and Ibrahim Ali.
General Youssouf Abdoulaye Kari, renowned for his dedication and leadership, was also a former member of Chad’s peacekeeping forces in Mali. His passing leaves a significant void in the Chadian military hierarchy.
Chadian Army spokesperson General Issakha Acheikh confirmed the ambush but did not offer additional details.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces announces to both national and international communities that, under a strategic reorganization of Defense and Security Forces by the President of the Republic, Supreme Chief of the Armed Forces, Operation Haskanite has been launched to eliminate Boko Haram terrorists from Lake Chad. The initial confrontation took place today, Saturday, November 9th, 2024.
He mentioned that after several hours of fighting, numerous terrorist fighters were neutralized, and operations are still underway. “A comprehensive report will be delivered in due course,” Acheikh stated.
