Only in Nigeria Do People Celebrate Thieves – Senator Ndume
Senator Ali Ndume criticizes the culture of celebrating corrupt government officials in Nigeria, calling for a change in attitude towards corruption. Read more about his bold statement.
Senator Mohammed Ndume has condemned the level of corruption in Nigeria, describing the trend as the biggest challenge facing the country.
Senator Ndume lamented during an interactive session with journalists in Kano on Sunday.
“The biggest challenge in this country is corruption. As of now, there is no law that can proactively or reactively address the corruption problem in the country.
“If you see anyone in our system, especially in politics and government, who is not corrupt, he is a God-fearing person and is lucky.
“Otherwise, it is only in Nigeria that you have a chance to steal money and roam free and be celebrated.
“When you come to these areas, people start lobbying, they start doing ‘dobale’ for you, and he knows his money has been stolen.
“Someone who had no money yesterday or last week, the next week he buys 10 cars, he buys a jet, his brothers fly with him, his mother fly with him, his uncle fly with him, and they say Allah has blessed our son,” he said.

The lawmaker said that in other developed countries, people ask people how, when and where they made their money, but in Nigeria, it was the other way around.
He said he had made several attempts to pass an unaccounted wealth law in Nigeria, but such efforts “never saw the light of day.”
He said he even went to one of the country’s former heads of state to ask if he could sign a law on such matters, but to no avail.
“At present, there is no law on unaccounted funds in Nigeria, nor is there a presidential decree on unaccounted funds in Nigeria,” Ndume further lamented.
He then lamented the current hunger situation in the country and called for increased cultivation of food crops to solve the problem.
“There is hunger in the country and so far we have not been able to cultivate even five percent of the land that is endowed in Nigeria.
According to him, Nigeria is blessed with arable land everywhere that can be used to grow food crops to feed its people.”
