Awka, the capital of Anambra State, experienced another tragic incident on Friday, resulting in the death of one individual.

This unfortunate event marks the fifteenth fatality in the city since Easter Sunday, which occurred just two weeks ago. The city has witnessed a series of killings, with six people losing their lives on Easter Sunday and an additional three the following week.

Throughout the week, there have been sporadic incidents of violence, including the targeted shooting of Nwanayoeze, a well-known youth among the locals, near his residence in Awka.

Furthermore, on Thursday, Chief Cajetan Nwokike, a former president general of Amansea community in Awka North Local Government Area, was also killed.

The most recent incident took place at Unizik Junction, where a man named Christian, believed to be from Enugu State, was fatally shot.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants arrived in a yellow tricycle, the approved color for all operators in Awka.

Christian, who was identified as a manager of Anambra Executive Transport Company, was shot three times before the perpetrators calmly fled the scene.

Despite speculations of cult rivalry being the cause of these incessant killings, acquaintances of Christian have attested that he was not involved in any cult activities.

When contacted, the police spokesperson in Anambra State expressed unawareness of the recent killing and lamented the fact that many families of the deceased choose not to report such incidents to the police, opting instead to bury their loved ones without proper investigation.
