Adeh, a Superintendent of Police, claimed that Tama Jonathan, a kidnap victim, died amid a shootout between police officers and the alleged kidnappers.
At Udulu Forest, Gegu LGA of Kogi State, bordering Sardauna Forest, Nasarawa State, and other known kidnappers’ hideouts in settlements close to the Federal Capital Territory, police officers have freed 58 kidnap victims.
In a statement released on Sunday, Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Command’s spokeswoman, said the bandits and kidnappers engaged the security team in a shooting duel as soon as they spotted them.
Adeh, a Superintendent of Police, claimed that Tama Jonathan, a kidnap victim, died amid a shootout between police officers and the alleged kidnappers.
The robbers were defeated and forced to flee while suffering varying degrees of bullet wounds, she claimed.
Meanwhile, Tama Jonathan, sadly, was hurt during the rescue effort and passed away immediately. His family has since received permission to bury his remains. The other 58 victims who were saved are in the hospital getting stabilized and will be reunited with their families soon.
The goal of the rescue effort, according to Adeh, was to combat violent crimes in the FCT, rescue victims, and bring offenders to justice. He added that the leadership of the command was working to maintain joint operations with other security agencies, vigilantes, and hunters from different local communities.
The PPRO reaffirmed the command’s commitment to continuing its efforts to thwart threats to the citizens of the FCT’s safety and security. She added that the command would not give up on rescuing any residents being kept hostage by criminals and prosecuting those responsible.
