A tragic incident occurred in Ogun State where gunmen kidnapped seven travelers on the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode Expressway, resulting in the death of one person. The armed men, numbering about seven and wielding AK-47 rifles, carried out the attack between Ilisan, the Ceplast industry, and the Iperu junction axis of the Expressway.
Despite the incident taking place on a Sunday, the confirmation of the passenger’s death was made by police authorities on Tuesday. The Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, Omolola Odutola, classified the event as a case involving armed robbery, murder, and kidnapping.
An audio recording from one of the victims, a driver en route to Lagos, described how the criminals halted their vehicles with gunfire and then forced them into the bush. The victim recounted the harrowing experience, mentioning the armed men’s use of violence and the demands for money.
The victim shared that the kidnappers, who spoke Hausa, eventually released him and another driver after taking their money and belongings, while the remaining five individuals were still held captive. The incident sheds light on the dangers faced by travelers on this particular route and the need for increased security measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
