One Dead, 14 Rescued as Police Thwart Kidnapping Attempt in Katsina

Katsina police foil a kidnapping attempt, rescuing 14 victims and leaving one person dead in a dramatic confrontation with the assailants.

A kidnapping for ransom victim has reportedly died from gunshot wounds inflicted by armed bandits while undergoing medical treatment in Jibia Local Government Area, Katsina State.

The deceased was one of two rescued victims who had sustained gunshot injuries and were promptly taken to the hospital by state police for urgent medical care.

The incident took place yesterday at around 7:55 PM when suspected bandits, armed with dangerous weapons and firing indiscriminately, attacked two commercial vehicles in Dan’aru village on the Magama Jibia road in Jibia LGA, Katsina State. Their goal appeared to be abducting the occupants of these vehicles.

In response, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) overseeing Jibia led a team of operatives to the scene and engaged in a fierce gunfight with the hoodlums.

In a statement on Monday, the Katsina State Police Command Spokesman, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, announced that the team led by the DPO successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt and rescued 14 victims.

While efforts continue to capture the fleeing suspects, State Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Musa, encouraged members of the public to promptly report any useful information on suspected criminal activities to their nearest police station.

He also praised the officers for their outstanding courage and dedication to duty, urging them to maintain this momentum.

On November 24th, 2024, at approximately 7:55 PM, suspected armed bandits wielding dangerous weapons launched a sporadic shooting attack on two commercial vehicles in Dan’arau village along the Magama Jibia road within Jibia LGA of Katsina State, aiming to kidnap the occupants.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia led a team of officers to the location, where they engaged the bandits in an intense gunfight. They managed to thwart the kidnapping attempt and successfully rescued fourteen victims.

Two rescued victims sustained gunshot wounds and were quickly taken to the hospital for urgent medical care. Unfortunately, one of the victims passed away while undergoing treatment.

He stated that efforts are continuing to capture the suspects who fled as the investigation progresses.
