At Ebonyi State’s Owutu Edda town, suspected political thugs set fire to the state high court.

Hardly 24 hours had passed since the state’s House of Assembly and Governorship elections before the development occurred.

In an interview with reporters, the court’s Registrar, Mrs. Oluchi Uduma, claimed that the thugs broke into the courthouse early on Tuesday morning while yelling war songs and set it on fire.

She remarked that the state High Court had previously been the target of hoodlum attempts to set it ablaze, but security forces had stopped them.

Uduma said that all of the court’s property, along with other priceless items and papers, had been completely incinerated.

The Owutu Edda community’s teenagers and security personnel were deployed, she added, but neither group was able to capture any of the suspects.

The suspected perpetrators of the arson attack on the state High Court in the Owutu Edda village of the Afikpo South LGA were young people who were extremely upset with the way the local elections for the House of Assembly and governor were handled.

The event was corroborated by Mr. Chima Ekuma Nkama, Chairman of the Afikpo South Local Government Area, who said that the court was irreparably damaged by fire.

He stated: “It is extremely regrettable that the hoodlums attacked the High Court in the Owutu Edda neighbourhood.
