The hit song “Calm Down,” by raving singer Rema, has amassed one billion streams on Spotify, a music streaming service, marking an extraordinary feat.
This was revealed in a statement released on Sunday by Spotify’s West Africa Artist and Label Partnerships Manager, Victor Okpala.
This success, according to Okpala, is a resounding endorsement of Rema’s talent and all-around appeal.
Rema earned a slot among the top 10 most streamed Afrobeats artists on Spotify, according to the speaker’s further explanation, as part of the platform’s “Journey to a Billion Streams” project, which focused on the genre.
Given the song’s popularity and Rema’s musical talent, Okpala stated that the song’s path to this milestone should not come as a surprise.
“With Calm Down, Selena Gomez’s smash tune, hitting one billion listens on Spotify, Rema has accomplished a great milestone. The tune in question is the first by an African artist to become a Spotify Billions Club member.
“The accomplishment not only emphasises Rema’s expanding impact in the music business, but it also emphasises the value of cross-cultural musical fusion in the connected world we live in today.
“Rema, a Nigerian artist, collaborated on a remix with Selena Gomez, an American artist, and it became a worldwide sensation.
This accomplishment for Rema is very extraordinary and represents a turning point for both the afrobeats scene as a whole and this gifted musician.
It is obvious that the genre is having a big impact and gaining a lot of clout on the international music scene, and we are thrilled to keep supporting it at Spotify, he said.
